Gervais, Special Assistant to Director of Athletics, Passes Away
SAN LUIS OBISPO, Calif. -- Bob Gervais, a special assistant to
Cal Poly's director of athletics since 2005, passed away Thursday
morning, July 19, 2012, in Santa Maria. He was 78.
Gervais, a graduate of Notre Dame with degrees in aeronautical and
nuclear engineering as well as astronautics, was a rated officer in
the U.S. Air Force. He practiced engineering in the private and
public sectors in aviation, space exploration and terrestrial
renewable energy domains, nationally and internationally.
His assignments at Cal Poly were wide-ranging such as strategic
management and planning, Cal Poly athletics’ academic image,
conference realignment, football scheduling, potential conference
memberships, Cal Poly’s relationships with national sports
administrators and analysts, and NCAA interactions.
Gervais resided in Santa Maria with his companion Donna Kriebel. A
service will be held Friday, July 27, at 12:30 p.m. at Holy Cross
Cemetery Chapel, 5835 West Slauson Avenue, Culver City, Calif.
(310-836-5500). A reception will immediately follow the ceremony at
the home of Neal and Nora Gervais (address and directions to the
reception will be provided at the ceremony.)

maintaining, and promoting the recreation, leisure, and parks
services offered by the Santa Maria Recreation and Parks
Department. These services offer a multitude of personal, social,
economic, and environmental benefits. Bob recently adopted
"Mojave," a burro who is living comfortably at Los Flores Ranch
Park in Santa Maria. Mojave has met hundreds of people in his short
time at Los Flores Ranch and will continue to meet thousands more.
