Cal Poly Athletics Helps Local Youth Through Hometown Heroes Program
SAN LUIS OBISPO, Calif. -– Cal Poly Athletics is proud to
announce the continued success of its Hometown Heroes program,
designed to provide local disadvantaged youth in San Luis Obispo
County free entrance to Cal Poly athletic events.
In its first year, the program has provided men's basketball
tickets to dozens of children from different youth programs,
including the San Luis Obispo YMCA and San Luis Obispo Big Brothers
Big Sisters. Over 70 youth were able to attend Cal Poly football
games this year.
Children from the San Luis Obispo YMCA were able to get autographs
from the basketball team, and even participate in promotions held
during halftime and timeouts.
The program will continue for the remainder of the basketball
season and into the spring sports season. Several youth groups are
already scheduled for both men's and women's games.
This is Hometown Heroes' first year as an official program of Cal
Poly Athletics. The program is part of Cal Poly's mission to place
value on civic engagement and social responsibility.
If you run a program serving San Luis Obispo County youth and
would like to request tickets to a Cal Poly athletic event, email
Brandon Jones at bjones14@calpoly.edu.
