Al Marinai (Football : Inducted Oct 2000)

A talented member of the Cal Poly football team from 1958-1960, Al Marinai entered the Hall of Fame as one of the best offensive lineman in school history. One that had his promising career cut short due to the tragic plane crash of 1960.

An All-City football selection from Polytechnic High School in San Francisco, Al participated in the East-West Shrine game in 1958. At Cal Poly, Marinai was a key member of the undefeated 1959 Cal Poly freshman football. In 1960, he earned a spot as a starting guard for coach Roy Hughes Mustangs and earned the distinction of the Block P Most Outstanding Athlete award. Al was also a member of the Cal Poly wrestling team. In 1984 he was inducted into the Polytechnic High School Hall of Fame.

In recent years Marinai has served as a volunteer assistant football coach with the Redwood City Ramblers, San Mateo Junior College team, Lick-Wilmerding High School, as well as an assistant wrestling coach at San Francisco State. Al and his wife reside in San Francisco.
