2008 -- Recorded 35 tackles (16 solo), including 9.5 tackles for lost yardage and 4.5 sacks, as a junior ... six quarterback hurries ... played all 11 games with five starts ... season-high seven tackles in Montana game ... three sacks against South Dakota State.

2007 -- Played all 11 games as a backup “Q” linebacker, including one start in the season opener at Texas State before an ankle injury forced him into a backup role ... 29 total tackles, including 18 solo stops ... led the team with 9.0 tackles for lost yardage, including 3.0 sacks ... also notched one pass breakup and a pair of quarterback hurries ... season-high six tackles against Texas State and five more against Northern Colorado.

2006 -- Started all 11 games at a defensive end position in his freshman season ... recorded 51 total tackles, including 23 solo and 28 assisted stops ... shared team-high sack honors with older brother Kyle Shotwell, each with 7.0 sacks ... notched career-high eight tackles (two sacks) against Southern Utah ... also forced three fumbles, recovered one (against Weber State), blocked one kick (a PAT against North Dakota State) and recorded 10 quarterback hurries, including five against Southern Utah and three more against UC Davis … 9.5 total tackles for 57 lost yards.

2005 -- Redshirt.

High School -- Recorded 81 tackles, including 40 solo stops and nine sacks, as a senior under head coach Armando Gonzales at Dos Pueblos High ... also recovered a fumble and, on offense, caught 27 passes for 474 yards and two scores and also rushed seven times for 82 yards and a score ... first-team All-Channel League as a defensive end, team MVP and listed as SoCal’s No. 7 prep linebacker by the Los Angeles Times ... as a junior, earned first-team all-league and All-CIF-Southern Section honors and was named team defensive MVP, leading Chargers into the CIF-Southern Section playoffs ... earned second-team all-league honors as a sophomore ... also lettered in basketball ... named Elks Lodge Student of the Month ... earned U.S. Marine Corps Distinguished Athlete Award as well as 200 Percent Community Service Award ... visited Colorado State and Nevada before choosing Cal Poly.

Personal -- Son of Steven and Cindy Shotwell ... father played football at Cal from 1979-83 ... three brothers, Kyle, Troy and Matthew ... Kyle won the Buck Buchanan Award in 2006 as a linebacker and signed a free-agent contract with the Oakland Raiders in April 2007 (he was on the practice squad of four other NFL teams in 2008) while Troy will be a sophomore with the Mustangs this fall ... once worked for a Jet Ski rental company … can read books backwards and has memorized Pi to 300 decimal places ... member of The Huddle (football team bible study) and Athletes in Action ... born March 25, 1987, in Santa Barbara, CA ... majors in agricultural business.
