Primarily a defensive end in his first two seasons at Cal Poly, moved to outside linebacker in 2008 and is a probable starter at SAM linebacker this fall.

2008 -- Started all 11 games at outside linebacker ... recorded 36 total tackles (22 solo), including 12.0 tackles for lost yardage and 8.0 sacks ... first-team All-Great West after finishing second in sacks and third in tackles for lost yardage ... career-high 2.5 sacks against South Dakota State ... recovered a fumble against San Diego State.

2007 -- Started first seven games and played in two others after recovering from an injury ... 21 total tackles, including 11 solo stops ... led the team with four sacks and notched two other tackles for lost yardage ... also forced two fumbles and recovered a pair of opponent fumbles ... eight quarterback hurries, including five in Western Oregon game ... career-high seven tackles against Idaho ... also competed in track and field with best marks of 49-8 in shot put and 164-1 in discus.

2006 -- Played in all 11 games as a backup defensive end … recorded 11 tackles (four solo), including a pair of tackles for lost yardage against Weber State.

2005 -- Redshirt.

High School -- Gillespie was a terror in the opponents' offensive backfield, recording 19 sacks and 83 total tackles as a senior and nine more sacks as a junior under head coach Jon Mack at St. Bonaventure High School ... helped Seraphs to third straight 13-1 record, third consecutive Channel League title and a second CIF-Southern Section Division IV championship ... as a senior earned first-team All-Channel League, All-CIF-Southern Section Division IV, All-Los Angeles Times Southern California and All-Ventura County honors ... was named lineman of the year in Ventura County ... Seraphs were 39-3 in Gillespie's three varsity seasons ... placed eighth in the state track and field meet in the boys discus in 2005 with a mark of 169 feet, 9 inches ... threw 179-9 as a junior, finishing second in the CIF-Southern Section Division IV finals.

Personal -- Son of Ottis and Kristine Gillespie ... two sisters, Jenna and Desiree ... wants to be a clinical psychologist ... lists filming movies and golfing as hobbies ... born March 30, 1987, in Oxnard, CA ... majors in psychology.
