SAN LUIS OBISPO, Calif. – Freshman Cici Kobinski’s team-leading fourth goal of the season led the Cal Poly women’s soccer team to a 1-0 win over UC Davis in a Big West Conference game at Alex G. Spanos Stadium on Thursday in San Luis Obispo. With the win the Mustangs improve to 10-5-0 overall and 4-1-0 in conference while the Aggies fall to 6-6-1 and 1-3-0 in the BWC.

Cal Poly’s lone goal came in the 19th minute when Cal Poly forward Bianca Burright flipped a pass from about 40 yards out to Kobinski who beat a UCD defender, Katie Webb, to the ball near the top of the box and fired a shot into the right side of the net.

UC Davis had a solid scoring opportunity in the first half when Webb took a free kick after a Cal Poly foul from 25 yards out, but the shot was blocked by a Cal Poly defender.

At the mid-point of the game Cal Poly had taken four shots, all on goal while UCD had six shots, three on goal.

In the opening moments of the second half, UC Davis had two attempts to tie the game, but were denied both times by Cal Poly goalie Coral Hoover. In the 51st minute, UCD’s Marisa Boge fired a shot from eight yards out forcing Hoover to make a diving save. Thirty seconds later Boge had a second try but Hoover took the ball off her foot for the save.

The Cal Poly defense tightened up and limited the Aggie attack the rest of the game.

Hover earned her seventh shutout of the season when she made seven saves and improved her record in goal to 10-2-0 while UCD goalie Sarah Peters also made seven saves in the loss.

Cal Poly had a total of 14 shots, eight on goal while Davis had 14 shots, seven on goal.

Kaleena Andruss and Burright led the Mustangs with three shots each while Boge led the Aggies with five shots, four on goal.

The Mustangs had six corners compared to just two for Davis while Cal Poly was whistled for seven fouls compared to five for UCD.

The Mustangs return to the field on Sunday when the team will host Long Beach State for a 1 pm game. Prior to the start of the game Cal Poly will honor the team’s six seniors.
