FULLERTON, Calif. – Junior southpaw Jared Eskew allowed one run and four hits in seven innings while the top six hitters in the Cal Poly lineup produced 15 hits as the Mustangs beat No. 12 Cal State Fullerton 11-4 in the middle game of a three-game Big West Conference baseball series Saturday night at Goodwin Field.

The win was Cal Poly’s first at Goodwin Field since March 30, 2002, when Kevin Correia pitched a complete-game seven-hitter with four strikeouts in a 3-2 Mustang victory.

Cal Poly is now 3-22 against the Titans at Goodwin Field since moving to Division I in 1995. The Mustangs have won 14 of their last 22 games and improved to 23-25 for the season and 7-10 in Big West games.

Cal State Fullerton remains in first place in the Big West despite the loss, falling to 31-17 overall and 14-6 in conference games.

Eskew (5-2) allowed one walk and struck out five, tossing just 84 pitches over seven frames. Buster Mueller pitched a scoreless eighth and Kevin Castner closed it out despite giving up a two-run double in the ninth.

The Mustangs chased Titan starter Daniel Renken (4-5) in the third inning, scoring twice for a 5-0 lead. Renken allowed five runs and six hits in two-plus innings, walking one and striking out two.

Cal State Fullerton is 3-9 in Saturday games this season.

Center fielder Logan Schafer, third baseman Brent Morel and right fielder Ryan Lee all collected three hits for Cal Poly while second baseman Pat Pezet, first baseman Wes Dorrell and left fielder Adam Melker produced two hits apiece for Cal Poly.

Schafer was in an 0-for-18 slump two weeks ago. Since then, he’s gone 16-for-28 to lift his average to .369.

Dorrell doubled twice Saturday night, driving in four runs. He has 17 doubles in his last 22 games and 18 RBIs in his last nine starts, currently with 21 doubles and 51 RBIs for the season.

Morel knocked in a pair of runs and now has 55 RBIs on the year, best in the Big West.

Cal Poly scored three runs in the first inning and pulled away with two more in the third, one in the fourth, two in the sixth and three in the seventh for an 11-0 advantage.

Lone home run of the game was produced by Melker, a solo blast in the first inning. It was his first homer of the season. The Mustangs hit for the cycle in the opening frame as Schafer singled, Lee doubled, Pezet hit his first triple of the season and Melker homered to cap the rally.

Cal State Fullerton scored its first run in the bottom of the seventh. Pinch hitter Khris Davis drew a leadoff walk and scored on a double by pinch hitter Matthew Fahey. Jon Willhite doubled in a pair of runs in the ninth and Joe Scott singled home the final Titan rally.

Fahey and Scott each had two of the Titans' eight hits.

Cal Poly scored the most runs it has tallied against Cal State Fullerton in 11 years; the Mustangs beat the Titans 14-4 on May 4, 1997, in SLO Stadium.

Cal Poly beat a top-25 team for the sixth time this season.

Final game of the series will be played Sunday at 1 o’clock with sophomore right-hander Steven Fischback (5-3, 4.39 ERA) to start for Cal Poly against Cal State Fullerton junior right-hander Cory Arbiso (9-2, 3.79 ERA).
