SAN LUIS OBISPO, Calif. -- Cal Poly sophomore-to-be outfielder Mitch Haniger was named West Coast Collegiate Baseball League Player of the Week on Monday after leading the Corvallis Knights to a perfect 6-0 week and into a tie for first place with Bend.

Haniger hit .368 (7-for-19) with two home runs and five RBI last week, including a game-tying home run in the bottom of the ninth inning Saturday to force the Knights' contest with Moses Lake into extra innings.

Haniger, the 2010 Big West Conference Freshman Player of the Year, is hitting .301 for the Knights this season with three doubles, three triples, three home runs, 10 stolen bases and 15 RBI.

Haniger hit .326 in his freshman season at Cal Poly with 15 doubles, seven home runs and 46 RBI.

Several other Mustangs are playing in the West Coast Collegiate Baseball League.

Also playing for Walla Walla are infielder Denver Chavez (.239, one double, seven RBI, three stolen bases) and pitcher Joey Wagman (pictured above) (2-0, 0.44 ERA, seven walks and 12 strikeouts over 20 2/3 innings).

Meanwhile, infielder Michael Hoo is playing for Cowlitz in the West Coast Baseball League and sports a .229 average with one double, a home run, seven RBI and seven stolen bases. Redshirt Matt Russell is hitting .145 with a double and four RBI.

Two Mustangs are playing in the Cape Cod League, one of the more prestigious wood bat summer leagues in the country.

Second baseman Matt Jensen and outfielder Bobby Crocker both are on the Yarmouth-Dennis Red Sox roster.
