Stockalper Named Domestic Player of the Year; Dennis Leads Vigo to Division Title
SAN LUIS OBISPO, CA – Former Mustang Derek Stockalper (2004-07) was named Swiss Domestic Player of the Year while Varnie Dennis (2000-04) helped lead Vigo (Spain) to a title in the second division. Stockalper playing for the Lugano Tigers in Switzerland, averaged 18.5 points and 6.2 rebounds while hitting 57 percent from the floor and 38 percent long range. SAN LUIS OBISPO, CA – Former Mustang Derek Stockalper (2004-07) was named Swiss Domestic Player of the Year while Varnie Dennis (2000-04) helped lead Vigo (Spain) to a title in the second division.
Stockalper playing for the Lugano Tigers in Switzerland, averaged 18.5 points and 6.2 rebounds while hitting 57 percent from the floor and 38 percent long range.
The Tigers posted a 17-5 record and finished second in their division. Stockalper was also named All-Swiss League Honorable Mention along with his Domestic Player of the Year honors.
Stockalper holds duel citizenship for Switzerland and the United States.
Dennis playing for Gestiberica Vigo in Spain, averaged 9.8 points and 6.0 rebounds in helping the team to a 23-6 record and a second division title. Dennis shot 54 percent from the floor.
Dennis concluded his career at Cal Poly in 2004 as the Mustangs third all-time leading scorer with 1,594 points and Cal Poly’s most prolific shot blocker with 136.
Stockalper finished his career in 2007 as the Mustangs only two-time All-Big West Conference First Team selection.
