Men's Basketball Hands Out Awards at End Of Season Banquet
SAN LUIS OBISPO, Calif. -- The Cal Poly men's basketball team held its postseason banquet Thursday, honoring the 2009-10 team that improved to 12-19 overall and 7-9 in conference play and advanced to the second round of the Big West Conference Basketball Tournament. SAN LUIS OBISPO, Calif. -- The Cal Poly men's basketball team held its postseason banquet Thursday, honoring the 2009-10 team that improved to 12-19 overall and 7-9 in conference play and advanced to the second round of the Big West Conference Basketball Tournament. Along with handing out individual awards, a highlight video recapping the year was shown.
After opening the season with an 0-5 record, Cal Poly won 12 of its next 26 games including seven in the Big West Conference play.
During the banquet, Cal Poly recognized three players who received various awards from the Big West Conference in senior guard Lorenzo Keeler, sophomore forward David Hanson and freshman Kyle Odister.
Keeler earned all-conference first team honors while Hanson was named honorable mention with Odister named to the all-freshman team.
The Mustangs also had a player earn Big West Conference All-Academic honors, senior Charles Anderson.
As for team honors, Keeler was voted the Most Valuable Player. Keeler averaged 16.2 points a game and 18.1 a game in conference games.
Chris O’Brien and Hanson earned the Captains Award with their leadership in practice and on the road. While Will Taylor was recognized as the team’s Mr. Hustle and Ryan Darling as Most Inspirational.
Senior Charles Anderson earned the Coaches Award for his all around impact.
