SAN LUIS OBISPO, Calif. -- Cal Poly sophomore defensive end Gavin Cooper has been named Great West Conference defensive player of the week for his performance in Saturday's 52-18 non-conference win at Northwestern State in Natchitoches, La.

Cooper recorded a team-leading seven tackles, including a pair of sacks. Cal Poly notched six sacks on the night and held the host Demons to 351 yards in total offense, improving to 2-1 on the year.

UC Davis defensive end John Faletoese blocked an extra-point attempt early in the game and then blocked a field goal attempt in the fourth quarter that allowed UC Davis to take a short-lived lead on No. 4 Montana to earn Great West special teams player of the week.

On offense, the weekly award went to North Dakota running back Josh Murray, who had a career-high 204 yards on 23 carries during the Sioux’s 38-35 win over Idaho State on Thursday night.
