Mustangs Finish Tied for 10th in Fresno State Lexus Classic

FRESNO, Calif. – Cal Poly carded a final-round five-person 369 Tuesday, climbing three positions into a 10th-place tie with Sacramento State in the Fresno State Lexus Classic men’s golf tournament at the San Joaquin Country Club. Coach Scott Cartwright’s Mustangs finished the 54-hole event with a 51-over-par 1,116 total on the 6,802-yard, par-71 course. FRESNO, Calif. – Cal Poly carded a final-round five-person 369 Tuesday, climbing three positions into a 10th-place tie with Sacramento State in the Fresno State Lexus Classic men’s golf tournament at the San Joaquin Country Club.
Coach Scott Cartwright’s Mustangs finished the 54-hole event with a 51-over-par 1,116 total on the 6,802-yard, par-71 course. Brigham Young and San Diego both finished with 1,085 totals, but the Cougars claimed the team championship on the first playoff hole.
Washington finished third, missing the playoff by two strokes. There were 16 schools in the two-day tournament.
Cal Poly’s top individual finisher was Pace Johnson (pictured above), who carded his third round of 72 and finished with a three-over-par 216 total, tied for 14th place. He was the lone Mustang in the top 40.
Finishing in a tie for 43rd place were Jarod Knight and Daniel Miller. Knight carded a final-round 73 for a 224 total while Miller checked in with a 74.
Bryan Pierce shot a 76 for a 227 total, finishing in a tie for 61st place, while Chris Satterwhite recorded a 74 for a 229 total, finishing 73rd. Trevor Guthrie notched a 79 for a 237 total, tied for 93rd place.
Robbie Fillmore of Brigham Young defeated John Chin of UC Irvine with a birdie on the first hole of a playoff to claim top individual honors. Fillmore had a final-round 66 and Chin a 67 as both finished with five-under-par 208 totals.
Eugene Wong of Oregon finished third at 211.
Cal Poly returns to action March 22-23 at the Bakersfield Roadrunner Classic at the Bakersfield Country Club.
