SAN LUIS OBISPO, Calif. – Takayuki Suzuki scored in the 56th minute to lead the San Jose Earthquakes to a 1-0 win over Cal Poly in an exhibition match Wednesday evening in Alex G. Spanos Stadium.

A Yuri Morales shot was deflected by Mustangs' goalkeeper Patrick McLain before Suzuki collected the ball a few yards in front of the net. Suzuki easily directed a shot over McLain, who was still on the ground, to record the first and only goal of the match.

The Earthquakes dominated most of the second half after affording the Mustangs a number scoring opportunities. Cal Poly's best scoring chance came in 53rd minute as Cameron Walters collected a deflected header on the right side of the box. Walters was all alone as San Jose's goalkeeper, Dan Benton, left his line, but Walters chipped the ball high over the frame.

The Earthquakes will continue their stay in San Luis Obispo with games against the Columbus Crew on Friday at 7 p.m. and D.C. United on Sunday at 1 p.m. at Alex G. Spanos Stadium as part of the MLS Central Coast Showcase. San Jose will also host a clinic Thursday morning for Central Coast soccer coaches following its morning training session. Several Earthquake players will also be available to sign autographs at Farmer's Market between 6 p.m. and 9 p.m. Thursday.
