SAN LUIS OBISPO – Former Cal Poly defensive midfielder and 2008 All-Big West Conference first team selection Anton Peterlin made his first start for the Everton Football Club reserve side Tuesday evening during a 1-0 home defeat against Manchester United reserves at Halton Stadium in Widnes, outside Liverpool.

Peterlin, who had previously appeared as a substitute during Everton’s initial four reserve matches, played all 90 minutes on Tuesday for the Toffees. Italian striker Federico Macheda’s 56th-minute goal won the match for United reserves, which counted Dutch international and two-time Best European Goalkeeper selection Edwin van der Sar in its starting lineup.

Everton (1-0-4), which has failed to pick up a point since opening the reserve season with a 3-0 victory against Burnley Aug. 25, travel to Bolton reserves Monday, Oct. 19.

Also named to NSCAA All-Far West Region team last season, Peterlin officially joined Everton from Premier Developmental League side Ventura County Fusion for an undisclosed fee July 1. Prior to the transfer, Peterlin had enjoyed a 10-day March training session with the 2009 FA Cup runners-up.

Peterlin authors a season-long journal for GoPoly.com, available HERE.
