
Lamer Earns Pin as Cal Poly Falls to Oregon State in Final Dual Meet

CORVALLIS, Oregon – Brawley Lamer won by fall and three other Cal Poly wrestlers earned decisions as the Mustangs closed their dual meet schedule for the 2019-20 season with a 24-15 loss to Oregon State inside Gill Coliseum.
Lamer (pictured above in earlier meet), who graduated from Crescent Valley High School in Corvallis, overcame an early takedown with an escape and takedown before pinning Logan Meek in 4 minutes, 5 seconds at 157 pounds. He improved to 10-11 for the year.
Senior Tom Lane is now 17-4 for the season after earning a 9-7 decision over J.J. Dixon at 197 pounds. Ranked No. 12 by InterMat, Lane overcame a 4-0 deficit with an escape in the first period, a takedown and four-point near fall in the second period and an escape and penalty point in the final period for the win.
Other Cal Poly winners were Joshy Cortez at 149 pounds and Bernie Truax at 165.
Cortez posted a 3-2 decision over Lane Stigall. The match was tied at 2-2 after two periods and Cortez scored the decisive escape in the final period, evening his record at 10-10.
Truax improved his mark to 15-10 with an 8-7 decision against Aaron Olmos, overcoming a 5-1 deficit. Truax earned an escape late in the second period and notched two escapes and a pair of takedowns for the victory.
Oregon State won six of the 10 bouts with two falls and four decisions.
Cal Poly, 3-9 in duals this season, will compete in the Pac-12 Championship on March 7 at Stanford.
