A potential starter in weekend rotation in second season at Cal Poly this spring.
2012: Compiled 4-4 record and 5.49 ERA in 13 appearances on the mound, all starts … combined on pair of shutouts … pitched 6.2 innings with seven strikeouts in 6-0 win over Oklahoma State and allowed two hits in eight scoreless innings with career-high nine strikeouts for 7-0 win against San Diego State … allowed one run and five hits in 7.1 innings for win against UC Irvine .. also earned win against San Francisco … 44 strikeouts and 16 walks in 57 1/3 innings … ERA was at 4.01 after win over UC Irvine, but compiled 9.82 ERA in last five starts of season … played summer ball for Asheboro Copperheads in Coastal Plains League and compiled 1-0 record and 3.00 ERA with five strikeouts in 15 innings.
Community College: Played one season at College of Sequoias in Visalia, earning first-team All-Central Valley Conference honors as a sophomore in 2011 ... compiled 7-3 record and 3.49 ERA, striking out 93 batters in 87.2 innings … opponents hit just .244 ... two complete games, including three-hit 1-0 shutout against Porterville … Giants were 26-12 overall and 18-6 for second place in Central Valley Conference ... a redshirt in 2010.
Army: Played one season for Black Knights in 2009 and compiled 1-3 record and 8.03 ERA with 15 strikeouts in 24.2 innings before suffering season-ending injury in April ... best performance was a seven-inning stint against Central Florida in which he allowed one run and six hits in 8-1 victory ... struck out two and walked one for the win .. named Patriot League Pitcher and Rookie of the Week for that performance ... Army was 36-21 and won Patriot League title in 2009, earning berth in NCAA regionals.
High School: A 2008 graduate of Olathe East High School in Olathe, Kansas ... earned second-team All-Kansas State 6A Class honors as a relief pitcher and first-team All-Johnson County honors as a catcher as selected by the Kansas City Star earned all-Sunflower League honors at both positions under head coach John McDonald ... hit .450 in 60 at-bats with 10 doubles, one home run and 25 RBI ... considered one of the state's top prep closers in 2008 with 1-1 record and 1.31 ERA, striking out 16 batters in 10 2/3 innings ... team was 15-3 overall and second in Sunflower League with 9-1 record ... helped Hawks to league title as a junior in 2007 ... member of the Businessmen and Women's Club in high school, and active in his church community as a volunteer and youth group member.
Personal: Son of Jeff and Shirley Brueggemann ... two sisters, Natalie, a 2006 Cal Poly graduate, and Whitney, a 2009 Kansas State graduate ... father was drafted by Minnesota Twins in 1977 and played six seasons in organization; he was general manager of the Visalia Oaks in the mid-1980s and has spent the last 12 years as Major League Baseball's "ambassador" to China, coaching and teaching the game to Chinese youth ... enjoys relaxing, listening to music and fishing as hobbies ... born April 16, 1990, in Winfield, IL ... majors in communication studies.
