2012: A .275 hitter in first season as a Mustang … winner of Scott Kidd Rookie Award as team's best first-year player after collecting 12 doubles, one triple, five home runs and knocking in 28 runs … 13 multiple-hit games, including five three-hit contests, and six multiple-RBI games … the true freshman drove in five runs with a single, double and triple against Washington on March 9 and had four RBI with three singles againstLoyola Marymount on Feb. 25 … five-game hitting streak and ended season with four-game streak .. reached base safely in 14 consecutive games … hitting .381 after Washington series in March, Torres cooled off, going 5-for-39 (.128) in an 11-game stretch before collecting six hits in next seven games ... started 48 games, all in right field, and played in remaining eight games as well ... his five homers were a solo shot against Santa Clara, a two-run blast against Washington, a three-run homer against Cal State Fullerton as Cal Poly rallied from 6-0 deficit for 8-6 win and solo blasts against UC Davis and CSU Bakersfield ... went 8-for-16 in four-game week vs. Santa Clara and Washington with eight RBI and five extra-base hits en route to Big West player of the week honors ... closed out season going 7-for-14 in UC Riverside series with three multiple-hit games ... average dropped to .257 on May 1 but was 15-for-45 (.333) in final four weeks … played summer ball for Corvallis Knights in West Coast Collegiate Baseball League … went 7-for-21 in WCCBL playoffs with four RBI … during regular season, hit .286 (44-for-154) with 15 doubles and a triple, driving in 23 runs and stealing five of eight bases.
