SAN LUIS OBISPO, Calif. — Cal Poly's Big West baseball series opener against defending conference champion Long Beach State on Friday, April 20, inside Baggett Stadium will be televised by ESPNU.
First pitch will be at 7 p.m.
Last telecast of a Cal Poly home baseball game was during the NCAA San Luis Obispo Regional in 2014 when ESPN3 broadcast all six games. Segments of several of the games were televised during SportsCenter on ESPN or ESPN2.
Last time a regular season Cal Poly baseball game at Baggett Stadium was televised was on May 9, 2010, when the Mustangs hosted UC Irvine. On a windy Sunday afternoon with ESPNU cameras turned on, the Anteaters won the contest 18-13.
"Anytime you can play on national television, it's a positive for your program," said 16th-year Mustang head coach Larry Lee. It offers us a chance to give our players a unique opportunity to play in front of a national audience.
"This broadcast from Baggett Stadium will make it possible to share the atmosphere and excitement of a classic Big West Conference matchup with baseball fans from across the state and the nation," Lee added.
Long Beach State claimed the 2017 Big West title with a 20-4 record and won the NCAA Long Beach Regional before falling to Cal State Fullerton in the best-of-three Super Regional, also held at Blair Field. The 49ers were 42-20-1 a year ago.
ESPN will showcase more than 800 NCAA baseball games during the 2018 regular season across ESPN's networks, including a record 161 games slated for television.
During the postseason, on top of carrying five conference championship games and the entire Southeastern Conference tournament, 153 games will be telecast across ESPN, ESPN2, ESPNU, ESPNEWS, Longhorn Network and the SEC Network and available on the ESPN App. In addition, the ESPN App will exclusively stream more than 450 games in 2018.
ESPNU also plans to broadcast the Cal State Fullerton at Long Beach State baseball game on Thursday, May 24, in addition to the Friday, May 11, softball contest between UC Riverside and Cal State Fullerton at Anderson Family Field.
