High School -- A tackle on both the offensive and defensive lines, Zottneck helped lead Los Alamitos High School under head coach John Barnes to an 8-3 overall mark, its second straight Sunset League title with a 5-0 record and a berth in the CIF-Southern Section Pac 5 Conference playoffs. Zottneck recorded 69 tackles on defense, including six sacks, and also notched four pass breakups, forced four fumbles, recovered a pair of fumbles and blocked a punt. Zottneck was the Griffins’ long-snapper for three seasons and earned the rare distinction of Sunset League overall MVP honors as a lineman last fall. He also earned first-team All-Orange County and first-team All-CIF-Southern Section Pac 5 honors and was named team MVP. A scholar-athlete, Zottneck also was named a National Football Foundation scholar and made the Principal's Honor Roll. As a junior, Zottneck garnered 50 tackles, including three sacks, and forced a fumble en route to first-team all-league and team defensive lineman of the year honors. Zottneck was recruited by Northern Arizona, Air Force, Penn, San Diego and Colgate, choosing Cal Poly because its “academic programs are amazing, the area is beautiful and I like the offensive line scheme.”
