SAN LUIS OBISPO, Calif. -- Former Cal Poly linebacker Mark Restelli made a special teams tackle in his first National Football League game Saturday night as the Miami Dolphins defeated the Atlanta Falcons 28-23 in an exhibition game at the Georgia Dome.
Restelli's tackle came on a Miami kickoff opening the fourth quarter.
Restelli signed a three-year futures contract with the Dolphins last January following two seasons with the Edmonton Eskimos of the Canadian Football League.
At Cal Poly, Restelli was an honorable mention All-Great West Conference selection as a junior in 2007. In 44 starts for the Mustangs from 2005-08, he racked up 267 tackles (16.5 for lost yardage), three sacks, two fumble recoveries, one forced fumble, three interceptions (one returned for a touchdown), 14 passes defended and one blocked kick in 46 games.
His 267 career tackles is No. 10 on Cal Poly's all-time career tackles list.
Meanwhile, ex-Mustang wide receiver Dominique Johnson played for Minnesota in the Vikings' 14-3 loss to the Tennessee Titans at LP Field in Nashville, but did not make any catches.
Defensive lineman Chris Gocong is nursing a stinger suffered earlier in the week in practice and was held out of Cleveland's exhibition game at home against Green Bay, won by the Browns 27-17.
Ramses Barden, another former Cal Poly wide receiver, did not play in the New York Giants' 20-10 loss to the Carolina Panthers at Bank of America Stadium in Charlotte, N.C.
Immediately after the NFL lockout ended, Barden was placed on the Physically Unable to Perform (PUP) list following offseason surgery to "clean out" his ankle and he has remained since camp began.
In nine career games with the Giants, Barden has only six receptions for 80 yards and no touchdowns. He was a third-round draft choice in 2009.
"Appreciate everyone's patience and support! Can't say when, but I'm working my butt off everyday to get back on the field soon," Barden tweeted last week.
Ex-Mustang defensive back Courtney Brown became a free agent during the offseason and has yet to sign. He was on the Giants' roster in 2010, but did not play in any games following two seasons with the Dallas Cowboys.
In Week Two exhibition games, Miami hosts Carolina on Friday, Cleveland hosts Detroit on Friday, Minnesota is at Seattle on Saturday and the New York Giants host Chicago on Monday.
