SAN LUIS OBISPO, Calif. -- In addition to its No. 23 ranking in the Sports Network media poll and FCS coaches poll this week, the Cal Poly football team also was ranked by four other organizations.
Coach Tim Walsh's Mustangs are ranked No. 16 by Any Given Saturday, No. 19 by College Sports Journal, No. 22 by Beyond Sports Network and No. 25 by College Sports Madness.
North Dakota State is ranked No. 1 in all four polls.
The Jeff Sagarin rankings published by USA Today has Cal Poly ranked ninth among FCS schools and 101st among all 246 NCAA Division I schools.
Cal Poly takes a 3-0 mark and 1-0 Big Sky Conference record into Saturday's Big Sky game at North Dakota (3-1, 1-0). Kickoff in the Alerus Center in Grand Forks, N.D., is scheduled for 4:05 p.m. PDT.
The Mustangs are coming off a 28-20 victory over UC Davis in the Battle for the Golden Horseshoe last Saturday before a sellout crowd of 11,075 in Alex G. Spanos Stadium.
Senior slotback Deonte Williams, who rushed for 188 yards on 20 carries and scored three touchdowns, was named a performer of the week by College Football Performance Awards.
Named Big Sky Offensive Player of the Week two weeks ago when he rushed for 187 yards and one score at Wyoming on Sept. 15, Williams scored on runs of 5, 14 and 7 yards against the Aggies.
Williams (pictured above) is the No. 1 rusher in the Big Sky with 484 yards and four touchdowns in three games, averaging 161.3 yards a contest. The 5-10, 200-pound senior from Oakland, Calif. (Pleasant Grove High School) also is No. 1 in all-purpose yardage (167.3) and No. 2 in scoring with a 10.0 average.
