Cal Poly 12th After Two Rounds of Play in Arizona State Thunderbird Invite

TEMPE, Ariz. – Cal Poly junior Jesse Yap carded a 70 and a 71 during his first two rounds of play at the Arizona State Thunderbird Invitational on Saturday at the Karsten Golf Course.

Yap (pictured above) is tied for 26th place entering Sunday's final round on the 7,002-yard, par-71 course.

Mustang teammate Grady Smith posted a 71 and 72 and is tied for 36th place while Cole Nygren is in a tie for 46th place following rounds of 71 and 74.

Coach Scott Cartwright's Mustangs are 12th in the field of 16 teams with four-person 284 and 291 totals.

Leading the field with 18 holes remaining is Arizona State with a 531 aggregate, 19 shots ahead of second-place Colorado State (550). UNLV is two more shots back and Cal has a 556 total for fourth place.

Chun An Yu and Blake Wagoner, both of Arizona State, share the individual lead with 12-under-par 130 totals. Both recorded rounds of 67 and 63. Collin Morikawa of Cal is third at 131 with rounds of 65 and 66.

Cal Poly's other two scorers were Justin De Los Santos with rounds of 72 and 76 for a 63rd-place tie and Jimmy Castles with a 151 for a 71st-place following rounds of 77 and 74.
