LOS ANGELES, Calif. – The Cal Poly doubles team of Devin Barber and Corey Pang advanced to the semifinal round while the two remaining singles players were eliminated from play in the third day of competition at the 57th Annual Southern California Intercollegiate Championships at the Los Angeles Tennis Center.
The Barber-Pang duo advanced to semifinal round with a tight win over UC San Diego's Ganesh Alagappan and Horea Portiu, 8-7, in the round 16. In the quarterfinal round the duo defeated Sasha Gryaznov and Ziad Sultan of UCSB, 8-7. They will face Jo DiGulio and Ryoto Tachi of UCLA in the semi's.
Barber lost in the round of 16 in the back draw on Friday to UCLA's Michael Guzman. Barber won the opening set, 6-4, but Guzman came back to win the second, 6-3, and the tiebreaker, 10-3.
Gannon Daynes lost in straight sets, 7-6, 6-1, to Loyola Marymount's Sebastian Bustamente in the consolation round of 16.
