  • Cal Poly Softball to Break Ground on Enhanced Hitting Area

    The Cal Poly softball program will debut a new covered batting cage and enhanced hitting area for the 2018 season as the Mustang Athletics Department will break ground later this summer at Bob Janssen Field on a project that will include five total batting cages, a revised bullpen and increased storage.

  • Hyland Throws Perfect Game, but Cal Poly Eliminated from NISC

    Senior righthander Sierra Hyland struck out 10 Weber State hitters to complete her third career perfect game Monday evening as the Cal Poly softball program opened NISC Championship Round loser’s bracket action with a 9-0, six-inning, elimination-game victory versus Weber State. Playing consecutive games against elimination, however, Cal Poly saw its postseason run come to a close with a 3-0 loss in the loser’s bracket semifinal to host program Liberty.

    Senior righthander Sierra Hyland and freshman first baseman Hailey Martin each produced a pair of RBI, but Lamar pushed across the decisive pair of runs in the top of the sixth inning Sunday afternoon as the Cal Poly softball program dropped its NISC Championship Round opener at Liberty Softball Field, 8-6.

    Senior righthander Sierra Hyland tossed a complete-game, four-hitter to record her 36th career shutout and became just the third player in program history to reach 200 career hits as the Cal Poly softball program earned its first postseason victory in eight years Tuesday evening with the Mustangs opening the inaugural National Invitational Softball Championships postseason tournament and Region 1 play with a 7-0 victory versus host Pacific.

    An at-large selection for the inaugural 28-team National Invitational Softball Championships, the Cal Poly softball program makes its return to postseason play after an eight-year hiatus at the double-elimination, May 16-18, Region 1 tournament, hosted by Pacific at Bill Simoni Field. Cal Poly (34-19), having posted the program's highest win total in eight seasons, opens Region 1 action versus West Coast Conference runner-up Pacific (27-24) on Tuesday, May 16 at 7 p.m.
  • Cal Poly Accepts Bid to National Invitational Softball Championships

    The Cal Poly softball program will make its return to the postseason after an eight-year hiatus with the Sunday evening announcement that Mustangs have accepted an invitation to compete in the inaugural National Invitational Softball Championship. Cal Poly will open Region 1 play on Tuesday, May 16 at 7 p.m. versus Pacific, which is hosting one of six postseason regionals.

    Senior righthander Sierra Hyland kept UC Riverside hitless for seven and one-third innings Saturday afternoon and the Cal Poly softball program pushed across two runs in the top of the eighth inning to close its 53-game regular season schedule with a 2-0 victory versus UC Riverside. The Mustangs, however, settled for a split as – despite a two-hitter from junior righthander Lindsey Chalmers – the Mustangs dropped a 2-0 decision during game No. 1.

    Senior Sierra Hyland threw her 100th career complete game on Friday afternoon, but unleashed a two-out wild pitch in the bottom of the ninth inning that allowed UC Riverside third baseman Shylene Helms to score as the Highlanders produced a 2-1, come-from-behind win versus the Mustangs at Amy S. Harrison Field.

The Mustangs, however, dropped Saturday's doubleheader opener 9-2 despite freshman righthander Steffi Best tossing five and one-third innings of relief without allowing an earned run.

    Senior righthander Sierra Hyland became the Cal Poly softball program's all-time leader with her 34th career shutout as the Mustangs opened a Saturday afternoon doubleheader and three-game series versus UC Davis with an 8-0 triumph at LaRue Field. Cal Poly completed the sweep in game No. 2, overturning a seven-run, first-inning deficit and, in the program's lengthiest game in more than eight years, outlasted UC Davis in 13 innings, 8-7.

    Senior righthander Sierra Hyland struck out eight CSUN hitters in a complete-game, two-hitter and become the first pitcher in the 33-year history of Big West Conference softball to record 900-plus career strikeouts, but the Cal Poly softball program opened a Saturday doubleheader and three-game series at CSUN by dropping a 4-3 decision. The Mustangs, however, received a complete-game, five-hitter with four strikeouts from junior righthander Lindsey Chalmers in game No. 2 as the Mustangs prevailed, 2-0.
