Mustang Minute: Track and Field Decathlete Ted Scranton

EDITOR'S NOTE: Mustang Minute, which debuted last month and features interviews with Mustang student-athletes that run each Monday, puts the spotlight on senior decathlete Ted Scranton this week.

Last season, Scranton tallied the No. 6 decathlon score in school history, with 7,038 points to take fourth place at the Big West Championships. He also made the all-conference team in 2015, in addition to earning USTFCCCA All-Academic honors in 2016.

An industrial technology major from Petaluma, Scranton also ranks No. 11 all-time at Cal Poly in the javelin with a career-best mark of 198 feet, 6 inches.

The Mustangs — who opened this outdoor season by earning a combined five event wins plus 11 second-place finishes between the Cal Opener in Berkeley and Ben Brown Invite in Fullerton — are about to host the program's 35th annual invite this week.

The 2017 Cal Poly #ShareSLO Invitational will begin with the hammer and discus throws at Cuesta College on Friday from 1 to 4 p.m. The majority of competition will be hosted at Cal Poly on Saturday, 11 a.m. to 4 p.m.
