Lafaix Selected for 3rd Team All-Regional Honors by United Coaches

SAN LUIS OBISPO, Calif. — Cal Poly freshman Camille Lafaix was selected by United Soccer Coaches for All-West Region Third Team accolades, the association announced Monday.

In addition to the Big West Conference, the region also includes the WCC, Big Sky and Summit League (while the Pac-12, Mountain West and WAC are designated for the Pacific Region). Fourteen players per first team, second team and third team (for a total of 42) were chosen among the region's 38 universities.

Lafaix was one of just four total freshmen among the 42 student-athletes making the list, and becomes Cal Poly's 24th all-regional honoree all-time.

An attacking midfielder from Archbishop Mitty HS via Los Gatos, Lafaix tallied four goals in her debut season, playing in every match. En route to a Big West All-Freshman Team award, she also distributed four assists (tied for seventh-most throughout the league), seeing 1,328 minutes altogether in her first year out of the San Jose Earthquakes Development Academy.

Lafaix scored twice and also assisted on another goal in the 3-1 win over Idaho State on Sept. 15, becoming the first Mustang since 2015 to do so, before also adding goals against Seattle U on Sept. 29 (a header which equalized in the 88th minute of a 2-1 overtime win) and Long Beach State on Oct. 3.

Her additional assists came against Cal Baptist, UC Irvine and UC Riverside (the latter two of which helped the Mustangs go 2-0 to close out the year, finishing 3-3-2 in conference play for fifth place). Cal Poly finished just one spot back of advancing to the Big West Tournament.
