Mustangs’ Williams Named Big West Women’s Tennis Athlete of the Week

SAN LUIS OBISPO — After going 4-0 over the weekend in singles and doubles in two home victories, Cal Poly women's tennis junior Caroline Williams has been named the Big West Women's Tennis Athlete of the Week.

Williams, a transfer from Maryland, helped the Mustangs defeat Nevada (4-3) and San Francisco (5-2). Playing at No. 4 singles, she downed the Wolf Pack's Blaga Delic (6-2, 6-2) and the Dons' Shanna Dos Santos (6-2, 6-4).

At No. 3 doubles, Williams and Grace Olyphant won twice, a 7-6 (5) triumph against Nevada's Lili Fekete and Maria Tatarnikova and San Francisco's Dos Santos and Margarita Treyes 6-3.

Williams is now 2-1 on the season in singles play and 3-0 in doubles with partner Grace Olyphant. The Mustangs have a 2-1 so far this season.

This is the first career Big West Athlete of the Week award for Williams.

She and the rest of the Cal Poly women's tennis team hit the road this weekend for two dual matches. They play Fresno State on Saturday and CSUN on Sunday.
