STANFORD -- The Mustang volleyball team put up a fight against No. 9 Stanford Sunday afternoon, pushing them to five sets, but fell short on the last day of the Stanford Invitational.
The Mustangs ended their last match of the invitational losing 3-2, giving them a 4-4 record on the season.
Cal Poly lost their first set 25-14 but came back in sets two and three much stronger, as they won 25-23 and 27-25. After challenging the top 10 team, they could not keep up the pace as they lost set four and five 25-13 and 15-10.
Sophomore Alexis Clewis led the team in kills and set her season high of 17 in one match.
Junior Taylor Nelson had 49 assists throughout the five sets, with 15 of them being in set three.
The Mustangs had a .156 attack percentage while Stanford had .310.
The Mustangs will be back on the road for the fourth straight week to participate in the Sacramento Invitational starting on Friday Sept. 16 against Grand Canyon.
