SAN LUIS OBISPO, Calif. — After a perfect 4-0 weekend in singles and doubles to help the Cal Poly men’s tennis team post two victories in its weekend home stand, junior Antoine Noel has been named Coca-Cola Cal Poly Student-Athlete of the Week.
Noel won both of his matches at No. 2 singles as well as both of his doubles matches at the No. 3 position with freshman Gary Vardanyan as the Mustangs took down UNLV 4-1 Friday and Denver 6-1 Sunday to help improve the team’s record to 5-5 on the season.
In singles, Noel beat the Rebels’ Richard Solberg 4-6, 6-2, 6-2, and the Pioneers’ Matt Summer 6-2, 1-6, 6-1, to improve his record to 6-2 this season, the second-best record on the team.
In doubles, he and Vardanyan beat both UNLV's and Denver’s No. 3 pairings to help Cal Poly take the doubles point in both matches. The two are now 2-1 since becoming a pair a few matches ago.
Cal Poly continues with the fourth of its five-match home stand Saturday when it hosts No. 41 Utah at noon from Mustang Tennis Complex.
