SAN LUIS OBISPO, Calif. — Keri Mendoza, Assistant Commissioner of Compliance for the Big 12 Conference for 12 years, has been hired as the Associate Director of Athletics for Compliance and Senior Woman Administrator at Cal Poly.
The announcement was made Tuesday by Mustang Director of Athletics Don Oberhelman. Mendoza replaces Barbara Martinez, Cal Poly’s Associate Director of Athletics for Compliance and Senior Woman Administrator for 19 years. Martinez announced her retirement earlier this year.
“I would like to thank Don Oberhelman, Dr. Nick Pettit, Dr. Tom Mase and the rest of the search committee for providing me with this amazing opportunity,” said Mendoza. “Cal Poly is such an impressive institution, both academically and athletically, and I am looking forward to being part of the leadership team to help shape the athletics department going forward.
“I am very excited to get back on campus to connect with a talented group of student-athletes and assist the coaches and staff with the compliance program,” Mendoza added.
Mendoza was hired as the Big 12’s Director of Compliance in September 2007 and promoted to Assistant Commissioner for Compliance in January 2011.
Mendoza provided interpretations of NCAA and Big 12 Conference rules and served as the staff liaison to the Faculty Athletics Representatives and Directors of Compliance. In addition, Mendoza served as the conference liaison to the Big 12 Women’s Soccer coaches and assists with the administration of the Big 12 Women’s Soccer Championship.
Prior to joining the Big 12, she served as the Compliance Eligibility Coordinator at Texas Tech from 2006-07 and was a Membership Services/Student-Athlete Reinstatement Intern at the NCAA national office in Indianapolis from 2005-06.
The Birdsboro, Pennsylvania, native graduated summa cum laude from the University of Kentucky in 2003 with a bachelor of business administration degree in marketing. Mendoza was a four-year member of the Wildcats’ women’s soccer team and served as captain during her senior year.
Mendoza earned master’s degrees in both business administration and sport business management from the University of Central Florida in May 2005.
Mendoza and her husband, Hector, have one daughter, Estela.
