LeCharls McDaniel was a cornerback on Cal Poly's 1980 NCAA Division II National Championship football team.

A four-year letterman, he intercepted 13 passes and scored three touchdowns in his Mustang career. He was team captain two seasons, earning honorable mention

All-American honors in 1980, and graduated from Cal Poly with a bachelor's degree in social science in 1981.

LeCharls went on to play in the National Football League -- two years each with the Washington Redskins and New York Giants. He was a member of the Redskins' Super Bowl XVII championship team and the Giants' squad which reached the playoffs in 1984.

LeCharls' coaching career began in 1986 at Hartnell College and he has also coached at Cal Poly, San Diego State and Cal along with coaching stints in the NFL for the San Diego Chargers, Arizona Cardinals and Washington Redskins.
