Bob earned a bachelor degree at the University of Akron in 1938. He finished his master of science degree at the University of Southern California in 1946. In that same year he became the head of physical education at Cal Poly and was highly regarded throughout the state university system for his knowledge and experience in building physical education into the curriculum.
His keen insights provided the basis for a strong, broadbased Cal Poly physical education program that clearly defined the role of intercollegiate athletics. He was an educator recognized for his professionalism, loyalty, devotion and humanitarianism. He touched the lives of students and colleagues alike. Bob served as physical education department head and head baseball coach. He was responsible for the organiziation and direction of the coaching/physical education workshop held at Cal Poly annually since 1946. In 1952, he received his doctorate of education at Stanford University. In 1961, he was a member of Governor Brown's Youth Fitness Commitee. From 1964 to 1965 he was the coach of the National Basketball team in Zambia.
Bob passed away April 15, 1990. He is survived by his wife Helen who lives in San Luis Obispo. He also has 3 children and 8 grandchildren.
