SAN LUIS OBISPO – Goals from defender Brennan Cole and forward Jessie Halladay either side of halftime helped the Cal Poly women’s soccer program overcome an early deficit Thursday evening against Cal State Bakersfield, but the Roadrunners converted an 80th-minute penalty as the Mustangs finished in a 2-2 draw.
Freshman goalkeeper Shannon Porubski recorded two saves to preserve an early second-half lead for Cal Poly (4-1-8, 2-1-1), which remained unbeaten in six home matches at Mustang Memorial Field this season.
With Thursday’s draw, Cal Poly remained in second place in the Big West standings, improving to seven points alongside Cal State Fullerton and idle CSUN. UC Irvine tops the table on nine points.
Following a week’s break, Cal Poly resumes Big West play at Hawai’i on Thursday, Oct. 9. Kickoff is scheduled for 9 p.m. PT.

Cal State Bakersfield (4-5-2, 1-1-1) scored with Thursday’s initial shot on target with a 18th-minute corner kick from midfielder Jaiden Gore knocked down inside the Mustang penalty area for midfielder Sara Ybarra, who fired past Porubski.
The Mustangs forced Cal State Bakersfield goalkeeper Kamy Anaya into a pair of saves during the next nine minutes before finding the equalizer in the 36th as Cole headed a corner from midfielder Madelyn Dougherty into the back of the Roadrunner net.
Cal Poly then surged ahead on 49 minutes after forward Annika Smith dribbled down the left side and, from the end line, slid a pass in front of goal for Halladay, who fired her team leading seventh goal of 2025 past Anaya.
Porubski produced saves in the 59th and 70th minutes before Cal Poly was whistled for a foul inside the penalty area in the 80th on Ybarra, who converted her penalty attempt at the right post.
