No. 6 Cal Poly Beach Volleyball Sweeps First Home Matches Saturday

PISMO BEACH, Calif.— The No. 2 duo of sophomore Emily Sonny and junior Samantha Manley won both their matches Saturday to keep their perfect record intact and help lead the Cal Poly beach volleyball team to a pair of victories in the team's first home matches of the season against TCU and No. 10 Arizona.

The No. 6 Mustangs (12-2) beat the Horned Frogs in its first match of the day 4-1 and followed that up by beating the No. 10 Wildcats 4-1.

Against TCU, Sonny and Manley defeated the Horned Frogs No. 2 pair of Cassie House and Haven Hill 21-16, 21-14. The No. 1 Mustang duo of sophomore Torrey Van Winden and freshman Tia Miric took down Jillian Bergeson and Jaelyn Greene in straight sets 21-13, 21-18.

Playing at the No. 3 spot, junior Adlee Van Winden and senior Taylor Nelson defeated Molly Scheel and Jensyn Bledsoe in two close sets 22-20, 21-17. Seniors Raeann Greisen and Hannah Hubbard took down the No. 4 duo of Claire Doyle and Hannah Rogers 21-8, 21-17 to complete the Mustangs' 4-1 victory.

In the second match of the day against No. 10 Arizona (7-3), Sonny and Manley took down the Wildcats' No. 2 duo of Olivia Hallman and Kacey Nady in straight sets 21-13, 21-15 to improve their record this season to a perfect 14-0.

Also getting a win to remain undefeated was Adlee Van Winden and Taylor Nelson, who beat Mia Mason and Makenna Martin to improve their pair record this season to 8-0.

Torrey Van Winden and Tia Miric won their match against the Wildcats' No. 1 duo of Natalie Anselmo and Olivia MacDonald 21-13, 21-19 to improve their record to 7-4 at the No. 1 spot.

Greisen and Hubbard picked up their second win of the day by beating Arizona's Brooke Burling and Jonny Baham in three close back-and-forth sets, 21-13, 20-22, 17-15. The duo is now 8-6 on the season.

Cal Poly, now 12-2 this season, travels to Bakersfield next weekend to take on CSU Bakersfield and Loyola Marymount on Saturday. They then take to Irvine to play Oregon and Irvine Valley College on Monday, March 26.
