No. 6 Cal Poly Beach Volleyball Sweeps Monday Doubleheader

IRVINE, Calif. — The Cal Poly beach volleyball team swept both of its matches Monday in Irvine, beating both Oregon and Irvine Valley College 5-0 to improve its winning streak to 13 matches and move its record to 16-2 on the seas.

The No. 6 Mustangs (16-2, 1-0) won all 10 games in straight sets. They also held their opponents to single digits in four out of 20 sets.

The No. 1 Cal Poly duo of sophomore Torrey Van Winden and freshman Tia Miric won their match against Oregon 21-14, 21-16 and Irvine Valley College 21-15, 21-15 to extend their pairs win streak to six matches and have won nine of their last 10.

The No. 2 pairing of sophomore Emily Sonny and junior Samantha Manley beat the Ducks (1-2) 21-7, 21-12 and the Lasers (3-8) 21-7, 21-12 to improve their record to 18-0, which is tied for the best Division I pairs record in the country.

Senior Taylor Nelson and junior Adlee Van Winden continued their strong season at the No. 3 spot. They beat Oregon 21-13, 21-12 and Irvine Valley College 21-12, 21-12 to improve their record to a perfect 12-0.

Teaming up for the first time this season at the No. 4 slot was senior Raeann Greisen and freshman Macy Gordon. They combined to defeat Oregon 21-14, 21-7 and IVC 21-10, 21-9.

Also playing together for the first time at the No. 5 spot was senior Hannah Hubbard and sophomore Heather Pembroke. They defeated Oregon 21-18, 21-16 and IVC 21-10, 21-7.

The Mustangs have a busy weekend of conference play coming up. They play CSUN and Sacramento State on Friday, No. 3 Hawai'i and CSU Bakersfield on Saturday and No. 5 Long Beach State on Sunday. All matches are being played in Sacramento.
