No. 6 Mustangs Face No. 3 Florida State to Open NCAA Tournament Friday

GULF SHORES, Ala. — After being selected to its first NCAA Tournament in program history, the Cal Poly beach volleyball team will play its first match Friday at 10 a.m. PT against No. 3 seed Florida State from Gulf Shores, Ala.

The match against the Seminoles (28-5) will be broadcast on ESPNU as well as on the ESPN3.com and the WatchESPN app. All of the matches on Friday will be televised on ESPNU. Three of the four matches Saturday will be televised on ESPN2 with the match at 1 p.m. PT aired on ESPN. On Sunday, the semifinal match at 7:30 a.m. PT will be on ESPN2 and the championship match at 11 a.m. PT will be on ESPN.

On the ESPN3.com broadcast, you will be able to pick and watch each match on courts 1-5.

For fans on the Central Coast, there will be a watch party for Friday's match against FSU and all other matches Cal Poly plays in the tournament at Charlie's Place in San Luis Obispo, starting at 10 a.m.

For the Mustangs (25-10), this will be the second time this season facing the Seminoles. Cal Poly fell 4-1 when the two played each other early in the season in Tallahassee. The Mustangs are 0-2 all-time against FSU.

Because the tournament is double-elimination, the winner of the match will take on the winner of the UCLA-Hawai'i match at 2 p.m. PT Friday and the loser of each match will face each other at noon PT Friday.

Cal Poly played the defending national champion Bruins (31-3) in the first match of the season, falling 5-0.

The Mustangs defeated the Rainbow Wahine (26-9) all three times the two played each other this season, marking the first wins over Hawai'i in program history. Two of those wins came during last weekend's Big West Tournament on the way to the Mustangs' first title.
