Summer Leagues: Ogrin, Samuelson and Beesley Swinging Hot Bats

SAN LUIS OBISPO, Calif. — Cal Poly junior-to-be second baseman Scott Ogrin has belted five home runs with 17 RBI for the Eau Claire Express of the Northwoods League this summer.

Ogrin is hitting .258 with 16 hits, including three doubles and five homers.

Ogrin (pictured at left) earned Northwoods League player of the night June 24 after hitting a three-run home run as the Express defeated the Rochester Honkers 5-2. Ogrin drew one of his three walks in the first. He led off the fourth with a single, but was left stranded. Ogrin drew his second walk in the sixth and then went deep for three in the seventh. The eighth inning bought another walk as he ended the night 2 for 2 with three walks, three RBI and one run scored.

Ogrin also hit a three-run home run against Thunder Bay on July 4.

Also enjoying a strong summer at the plate are outfielder Bradlee Beesley, first baseman Tate Samuelson and incoming outfielder Elijah Greene.

Beesley (pictured at center) is hitting .364 for the Yarmouth-Dennis Red Sox in the Cape Cod League. In his first pitch in the league, Beesley belted a two-run home run in the second inning June 17 against Cotuit.

Samuelson (pictured at right) is hitting .318 with Waterloo in the Northwoods League with two doubles and eight RBI. Samuelson has five two-hit games, including two singles and three RBI against both Thunder Bay on June 30 and Willmar on July 4.

Greene, a transfer from Mt. San Antonio College, sports a .328 average at Yakima Valley in the West Coast League. Among his 20 hits are three doubles and a triple and he has driven in seven runs with three steals. Greene has four multi-hit games. Not included in his stats are two doubles and three singles in non-league contests as he is hitting .347 overall for the summer.

Incoming freshman Conagher Sands is hitting .274 for the San Luis Obispo Blues with five doubles, 15 RBI and five two-hit games. Also playing for the Blues are Jack Kuzma (.125), Thomas Triantos (0-1, 6.97 ERA) and incoming freshman Noah Taylor (.204).

For the Corvallis Knights, Cole Cabrera hit a two-run home run against the Uath Marshalls and sports a .217 average while Connor Redmond has no record and a 0.90 ERA on the mound with seven strikeouts in 10 innings.

Blake Wagenseller has played just two games for the Victoria HarbourCats, hitting a solo home run July 1 against Kelowna.

At Kelowna, Andrew Alvarez has pitched six innings with no record and a 4.50 ERA. He tossed five innings July 1 against Victoria, allowing two hits and three runs in a no-decision. Incoming freshman Zane Lindeman has a 1-1 record and 8.21 ERA at Kelowna.

Nick DiCarlo is hitting .269 at Yakima Valley with four doubles, a home run against Kelowna on June 24 and back-to-back three-hit games June 24 and 26.

Incoming freshman Chase Watkins was the winning pitcher for the PUF Caps in a 12-0 shutout over the Walnut Creek Crawdads on July 3, pitching five scoreless innings with one walk and six strikeouts. He allowed just one hit.

Also playing summer ball are Myles Emmerson (.136) at Waterloo, John Mackay (.128) at Peninsula and three incoming freshmen with the Utah Marshalls — Ryan Jameson, AJ Esperanza and Willie Cano.
