A starter in nine of Cal Poly’s 12 games last fall at defensive end and will be  challenged by Chris Judge for the same spot this fall.

2012 -- Recorded 40 total tackles in first season at Cal Poly, including 19 solo stops and 21 assists ... season-high seven tackles in Eastern Washington game and made six tackles against both Wyoming and North Dakota ... earned a sack against North Dakota and had 3.5 tackles for lost yardage for the season ... forced a fumble in North Dakota game and also had two of his four quarterback hurries for the season against North Dakota ... blocked a PAT kick in Northern Arizona contest ... notched two tackles in 2013 Spring Game.

Wisconsin -- Transfered to Cal Poly in the spring of 2012 from the University of Wisconsin, where he was a redshirt in 2010 and did not play in 2011 ... was named Wisconsin’s defensive scout team player of the week for the Indiana game in the 2010 season.

High School -- A 2010 graduate of Waunakee High School ... under head coach Pat Rice, recorded 55 tackles, 22 of them for lost yardage, and 10 sacks along with one blocked punt, one interception and one fumble return for a touchdown in his senior season (2009), leading Warriors to 13-1 record, first-place tie in the Badger North Conference and the Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Association state Division II championship ... a team captain, Irwin was ranked by Scout.com as the No. 103 defensive end in the country and the 11th-best player in Wisconsin according to Rivals.com ... in senior season, was named Wisconsin State Journal All-Area Player of the Year and first-team all-area by the Wisconsin State Journal and Capital Times ... also earned first-team Wisconsin Football Coaches Association and Associated Press all-state honors as an offensive lineman ... a unanimous two-way first-team Badger All-Conference selection as an offensive tackle and defensive end ...
