DAVIS, Calif. – Nick Engelhardt carded a 75 and the Cal Poly men's golf team climbed one spot into eighth place in the final round of the El Macero Classic hosted by UC Davis on Sunday at the El Macero Country Club.
With his second round of 75, Engelhardt finished with a 16-over-par 232 total on the 7,138-yard, par-72 course for a 45th-place tie.
Mustang teammates Mitch Martin (pictured at right) and Jimmy Castles finished ahead of Engelhardt. Martin placed 25th with a final-round 78 for a 227 total while Castles carded a 78 as well for a 231 total and 42nd place.
Cal Poly posted a final-round four-person 311 total, finishing with a 64-over-par 928 aggregate and jumping over Air Force into eighth place.
Nevada ran away with the team title in the 13-school event, posting a 10-stroke victory over runner-up UCLA, 879-889. Texas Tech and Cal State Fullerton shared third place, another two shots back.
Top two individual winners were from Nevada. Second-round leader Grant Booth shot a 75 and finished at even par with his 216 total, but slipped behind Sam Meek, who recorded a 73 for a 215 total and a one-shot victory.
Ivan Ramirez of Texas Tech finished third at 219 after a final-round 75.
Martin was sixth in par-3 scoring at one over par and also finished sixth with his 36 pars.
Cal Poly will compete in the Big West Conference Championship, scheduled for April 29 through May 1 at the Industry Hills Golf Club in the City of Industry, Calif.
