SOUTH KENT, Conn. — Cal Poly finished sixth in the 20-team rain-shortened Hartford Hawks Invitational men's golf tournament on Tuesday morning at the Bull's Bridge Golf Club.
Darkness halted play midway through the second round Monday. The second round was completed Tuesday morning before rain from the remnants of Hurricane Florence forced the final round to be cancelled.
Coach Scott Cartwright's Mustangs, in fifth place after the opening round Monday with a three-under-par 285 total, completed the second round Tuesday morning with a 293 aggregate for a 36-hole two-over-par 578 total.
Drexel slipped past Cal Poly into fifth place with a second-round 285 and an even-par 576 total.
Central Florida claimed the team title with a 26-under-par 550 aggregate, followed by Connecticut (559) and Seton Hall (564).
Thomas Lehman, tied for the lead with a career-best six-under-par 66 Monday, carded a 79 Tuesday on the 6,992-yard, par-72 course and finished in a tie for 28th place with his 145 total.
Dominick Hoover (pictured above at right), a junior and transfer from Monterey Peninsula College playing his first two rounds of golf as a Mustang, was Cal Poly's top finisher with rounds of 70 and 72 for a two-under-par 142 total and tied for 18th place with three other golfers.
Freshman Will Draper from Chaminade High School in the San Fernando Valley shared 28th place with Lehman at 145. Draper recorded a 76 and 69.
Cal Poly's other two scoring golfers were Tanner Podres with a pair of 73s for a 146 total and 40th-place tie and Sage Casaga with an 82 and 87 for a 169 total and 109th place.
Cal Poly returns to action Oct. 1-2 at the Nick Watney Invitational hosted by Fresno State at the Dragonfly Golf Club in Madera.
