Lehman’s 68 Sparks Cal Poly in Final Round at Palm Desert
PALM DESERT, Calif. — Senior Thomas Lehman blistered the Classic Club course with a four-under-par 68 Sunday, climbing 40 spots on the leaderboard at the Wyoming Desert Intercollegiate.
Lehman and sophomore Tanner Podres both finished in a tie for 52nd place with nine-over-par 225 totals on the 7,305-yard, par-72 course. Podres, in a tie for 15th place at the start of the final round, slipped to a 79 Sunday.
Lehman carded five birdies and one bogey, missing his career-best round by two strokes.
Lehman and Podres helped Cal Poly to a 16th-place finish in the 21-team field. The Mustangs carded a four-person 298 total Sunday, their best round of the three-day 54-hole tournament, for a 44-over-par 908 aggregate.
Texas Tech claimed the team title by one stroke over Boise State. Texas Tech accumulated a six-under-par 858 total after a 286 Sunday while Boise State checked in with a 285 total for a five-under-par 859 aggregate.
Kansas was another seven strokes back in third place, followed by TCU and Colorado State.
Individual honors went to Skyler Eubank of Boise State with a final-round 71 for a nine-under-207 total and a two-stroke victory over Harry Hillier of Kansas and Adam Blomme of Texas Tech. Sandy Scott of Texas Tech was fourth at five under par.
Cal Poly's other scoring golfers were Cade Casaga with a final-round 76 for a 231 total and 81st place, Will Draper with a 75 for a 233 total and 90th place, and Sage Casaga with an 80 for a 236 total and 97th place.
Coach Scott Cartwright's Mustangs return to action March 4-5 at the Sacramento State Invitational, to be held at Valley Hi Country Club in Elk Grove.
