SAN LUIS OBISPO, Calif. — Cal Poly will host seven men's golf teams, including fellow Big West Conference members UC Santa Barbara, UC Irvine and CSUN, for the Cal Poly Collegiate Match Play Championship on Monday and Tuesday at Cypress Ridge Golf Course.

UC Santa Barbara is seeded No. 1 and will face No. 8 Weber State in the opening round Monday. Also in the upper bracket are No. 4 Sacramento State and fifth-seeded Cal Poly, with tee times set for 8 to 8:50 a.m. Both matches are from the first tee.

In the lower half of the bracket, No. 2 Utah State meets No. 7 Southern Utah while third-seeded UC Irvine takes on No. 6 CSUN. They will start at the 10th hole, also at 8 a.m.

Semifinals will take place Monday afternoon at 1:15 p.m. from the first and 10th tees, with the final round set for Tuesday starting at 7:40 a.m., all from the first tee. The championship and consolation matches begin at 8:35 a.m.

Cypress Ridge, located on the Nipomo Mesa just south of Arroyo Grande, measures 6,803 yards and par is 72.

Cal Poly last hosted a match play tournament in March 2015, also at Cypress Ridge, and finished second to UC Irvine.

Coach Scott Cartwright is conducting qualifying matches this weekend to determine his lineup for this year's event.

Sophomore Tanner Podres (pictured above) leads the Mustangs in scoring with a 73.0 average. Podres carded career-best rounds of 66 and 67 en route to a fourth-place tie in the Sacramento State Invitational earlier this month and also was fifth in the UC Irvine Invitational.

Senior Thomas Lehman owns a 73.2 scoring average with a season-best round of 68 in the Wyoming Desert Intercollegiate at The Classic Club in Palm Desert.

Other potential candidates for the match play tournament are Dominick Hoover (73.5), Will Draper (75.7 scoring average), Adil Bir Singh (77.3), Sage Casaga (78.1) and Cade Casaga (78.5).

After the match play tournament, Cal Poly will compete in the Sandpiper UCSB Invitational on April 15-16, the final event on the calendar prior to the Big West Conference Championship on April 29-30 at the Wailua Golf Course on the Hawaiian island of Kauai.
