SAN LUIS OBISPO – Sophomore goalkeeper Carlos Arce-Hurtado was called upon to make just one save versus UC Davis Wednesday evening, but the Cal Poly men's soccer program mustered just one shot on goal versus the Aggies during the Big West Conference opening match and dropped a 1-0 decision inside Alex G. Spanos Stadium.
Scoreless into the 64th minute, UC Davis produced the game's lone goal as defender Luke Hazel headed a corner kick from forward Adam Mickelson past a diving Arce-Hurtado.
To open Wednesday's match, Cal Poly produced three shot attempts before testing UC Davis goalkeeper Wallis Lapsley in the 32nd minute as junior midfielder Emmanuel Perez's second attempt of the evening was caught, spilled and recollected.
Despite outshooting the Aggies, 10-8, that attempt counted as Cal Poly's lone attempt on frame.
Arce-Hurtado's lone save occurred in the 11th minute.
Perez led all players with three shot attempts.
Cal Poly (4-5-1, 0-1-0) continues Big West action with a 7 p.m. matchup at UC Riverside on Saturday, Oct. 12.
