BOISE, Idaho – The Cal Poly men's tennis team defeated Boise State 6-1 in its first dual match of the season on Monday in Boise, Idaho.
"Our win today was a great way to start our season," said head coach Nick Carless. "We were chomping at the bit to get our dual season going since our match against Fresno got cancelled. With that being said, we came out a little rusty in doubles but found a way to pull it out and took the momentum into singles and ran with it."
After Enander and Noel beat Greg Wischer and Pedro Platzeck 7-6(5), the Mustangs went into singles play with a 1-0 lead.
Noel put the Mustang's second point on the board, as he beat Morgan Stone 6-0, 6-4 on court five. No. 45 Donovan beat Tran 6-3, 6-1 on court two, while Pang beat Butters on court one, 6-1, 6-1.
Leading the Broncos 4-0, Axel Damiens defeated Harvey Shackleton 7-5, 6-3 on court six, while Auproux pushed Platzeck to three sets on court four and came out with the win, 6-2, 4-6, 1-0 (6).
Josh Ortlip pushed Heslin to three sets but fell short, 6-4, 2-6, 1-0 (11-9).
"I thought our freshman Antoine especially had a great day clinching the doubles point with Karl and being the first player to put a point on the board for us in singles," said Carless. "For Antoine, that is a great way to start his college career."
The Mustangs' match against Fresno State was postponed due to rain and will be played on April 13.
The Mustangs will be back on the courts starting Jan. 27 to participate in the ITA Kick-Off Weekend at Cal.
