Men’s Tennis’ Ortlip Earns Second Big West Award of the Season

SAN LUIS OBISPO— After helping lead his team to two wins over the weekend against San Diego State and Fresno State, Cal Poly junior Josh Ortlip has been named the Big West Men's Tennis Co-Athlete of the Week, sharing the award with UCSB's Nicolas Moreno.

Ortlip won at No. 1 singles in three sets against SDSU's Santiago Cevallos 6-3, 4-6, 6-2 and Fresno State's Xander Veys by a score of 6-4, 6-1.

Ortlip teamed with senior Axel Damiens to go 2-0 at No. 2 doubles, including a 7-6 (5) win over the Aztec duo of Cevallos and Arnuad Restifo.  They then beat the Bulldog tandem of Veys and Cagatay Soke by a 6-3 score.

Including results from the fall, Ortlip is 9-5 in singles competition this season and 5-3 in doubles.

This is the second Big West Men's Tennis Athlete of the Week award for Ortlip this season.

The Mustangs (5-1 overall on the season) travel to Tempe, Ariz. this weekend to compete in the ASU Invitational. They will play Fresno State on Friday and host school Arizona State on Saturday.
