SANTA CLARA, Calif. — Senior Josh Ortlip and junior Antoine Noel each picked up singles wins to keep their dual match win streak alive as the Cal Poly men's tennis team was just edged out on the road to Santa Clara 4-3 Sunday.

The Mustangs (12-8, 3-0 BWC) started the day by winning the doubles point after Noel and freshman Gary Vardanyan won their team-best eighth doubles match this season with a 6-2 victory on court two followed by a 7-5 victory at the No. 3 position by sophomores Andrew Whitehouse and Roman Shenkiryk.

Noel then put Cal Poly up 2-0 with a 6-1, 6-1 win at No. 2 singles. He has now won five straight singles matches and improved his record to 12-3 this season.

After the Broncos (14-6) cut the lead to 2-1, Ortlip put Cal Poly up 3-1 with a 6-3, 6-0 win at No. 1 singles. The win is his sixth in a row and moves his record to a team-best 13-5 this season.

Santa Clara was then able to win the next three singles matches to secure the 4-3 victory.

The Mustangs get back to Big West play next week with their final two matches of the season. Cal Poly will host Hawai'i Friday, April 19 at noon for senior day. That will be followed by the regular season finale at Central Coast rival UC Santa Barbara Saturday at 10 a.m.
