SAN LUIS OBISPO, Calif. — Following another strong season in which the Cal Poly men's tennis team advanced to its fourth straight Big West Tournament Championship Match, the Mustangs finished the 2018-19 season ranked No. 71 in the nation by the Intercollegiate Tennis Association in its final Division I Team Rankings.
This is the ninth straight year Cal Poly has been named in the final national rankings.
Cal Poly finished the season 14-10, the fifth straight year it has reached the 14+ win mark. The team finished second in both the Big West regular season and the tournament. The Mustangs went 8-1 at home this season and are 19-2 at home the past two seasons. The highlight of those home wins this season came against No. 50 Utah, which was the first home win over a PAC-12 opponent under head coach Nick Carless.
The Mustangs also had five guys named to the Big West All-Conference teams. Senior Josh Ortlip and junior Antoine Noel were both named to the First Team All-Big West in singles and sophomore Alex Stater earned honorable mention.
In doubles, Ortlip and fellow senior Dominic Bechard earned First Team honors while Noel and freshman Gary Vardanyan earned Second Team honors.
Cal Poly will lose Ortlip and Bechard to graduation. The Mustangs will begin the 2019-2020 fall season in September.
