MALIBU, Calif. — Senior Antoine Noel and freshman Fernando Fonseca had strong individual performances for the Cal Poly men's tennis team during last weekend's ITA Southwest Regionals at Pepperdine University in Malibu.
Competing against players from some of the top programs on the west coast, Noel and Fonseca each won three matches to advance to the Round of 16. Fonseca's run included a win in the Round of 32 over UC Santa Barbara's Victor Krustev. Fonseca lost in the next round to the eventual champion, Stefan Dostanic from USC.
In doubles, Noel and sophomore Gary Vardanyan advanced to the Quarterfinals after winning three matches to get there.
Elsewhere, freshman Alexis Delisle advanced to the Quarterfinals of the consolation singles draw by winning a pair of matches.
Cal Poly will compete in its final event of the fall next weekend when they travel to Las Vegas for the UNLV Invitational.
