No-Hitter Helps Chalmers to Second Big West Pitcher of the Week Honor

SAN LUIS OBISPO – After tossing her first career no-hitter and producing a pair of victories during the Cal Poly softball program's April 14-15 home series against UC Davis, senior righthander Lindsey Chalmers was named Big West Conference Pitcher of the Week on Monday for a second time in 2018.

During Cal Poly's 1-0, series-opening victory against UC Davis (April 14), Chalmers (14-7) faced just two hitters over the minimum and struck out three in throwing her first career no-hitter. During the decision, Chalmers retired the first 12 UC Davis hitters in order and faced the minimum number of batters through six and two-thirds innings before hitting and then walking successive Aggie batters.

Chalmers, however, closed the game with her third strikeout to complete the first hitless performance by a Mustang since righthander Sierra Hyland threw a perfect game during a 9-0, six-inning victory versus Weber State on May 22, 2017.

Chalmers then tossed her second complete-game victory in as many days as Cal Poly closed the series with a 6-1 win against the Aggies (April 15). She struck out two Aggies in the 75-pitch effort.

Having produced a victory during 10 her previous 14 starts, Chalmers now ranks second among Big West pitchers in victories (14) and complete games (15), fourth in starts (21), fifth in innings pitched (127.0), seventh in strikeouts (82) and eighth in ERA (2.54).

Monday's award was the second of her career after also winning honors in 2016.

Cal Poly (19-19, 3-6) closes its six-game home stand with an April 21-22, three-game series versus CSUN. The series begins with a 1 p.m. doubleheader on Saturday, April 21.
