The 2011 AT&T Winter National Championships kicked off Thursday and continues through Saturday in Atlanta, Georgia. Eight Cal Poly athletes qualified to compete in 12 separate events during the competition, though none advance to Thursday night's finals.
Sophomore Konrad Antoniuk was the first to swim in his 400 freestyle event. He finished at 4:05.44 his best effort this year in the 400 freestyle. Antoniuk competes again on Saturday in the men's 1,500 freestyle.
Junior Angie Haven qualified to swim in four events at the competition. In her first event, the 200 individual medley, she turned in a time of 2:25.83. Haven will swim again Friday in the 100 butterfly and 100 breaststroke.
In the women's 50-yard freestyle, senior Amy Morales recorded a time of 27.03, just 1.72
seconds behind the leader in a tight race. Morales swims in the 100 backstroke Saturday.
The National Championships continue through Saturday with Mustangs swimming in three events tomorrow.
